COVID-19 Comic by Olivia Columbo

Category: Reading Responses and Conversations

“L.A.G., Loss, and Lots of Love” is a heartwarming and hopeful comic about finding and sharing love in trying times. The student created her comic in response to the abrupt departure from Boston College and the experiences that were lost as a result.

The comic is detailed and delivers a clear story. The comic has an emotional and genuine tone; the author is able to portray her unique experience in a way that everyone can connect to. The illustrations align well with the captions. The length of some of the captions overtakes some sections.

COVID-19 Comic by Maddie Rose Notarini

Category: Reading Responses and Conversations

Maddie’s comic is a well-structured comic about COVID-19 and the universal struggles with isolating. The student was inspired to create this comic because of a journal entry she wrote shortly after returning home and quarantining. She took inspiration from Spiegelman in the way she drew close-ups of her computer screen and her books.

The comic is a good example of an introductory comic. It is very neat, and the illustrations are well-executed. The author voices some of her struggles while quarantining, struggles that many can identify with, and attempts to end the comic on a hopeful and lighter tone.
